Darling

NEWSFLASH: DARLING WIND FARM GETS CITY CONTRACT

Darling is about an hour's drive north of Cape Town, situated just inland of the R27 West Coast road. The town is best known for its spring flowers, Pieter-Dirk Uys, peace, tranquility and having the wildest 9-hole golf course in the country! It is 25km from Yzerfontein.

Darling is named after Sir Charles Darling, who was Lieutenant Governor of the Cape Colony in 1853. The fertile land surrounding the town supports dairy herds, lupins, wheat, wine and wool. Manufacturing industry includes textiles, clothing and basket factories.

Flora

In the spring (August to October), the village and its surrounds are smothered with an unbelievable variety of stunning wild flowers; the fields in and around Darling are massed with brightly coloured indigenous flowers (over 1000 species), such as:
