Depending on whether the two Eudyptula species are counted as distinct, there are 17 or 18 known species (of penguin) worldwide. The closest relatives of African Penguins is the Galápagos Penguin found in the Pacific Ocean near the equator and the Magellanic & Humboldt penguins found at the southern end of South America.
