Ironfountain
The word "Yzerfontein" translates literally into "Iron fountain", and originates from a spring used by the San Bushmen and then later as a watering hole for a live-stock farm of the Dutch East India Company. The water was rust-coloured and had an iron taste, hence the word Yzerfontein developed:
....although it is also speculated that the name may derive from a big slab of ironstone found near the main fountain.
