The people of Yzerfontein exude the charm and warm hospitality typical of South Africa's west coast. The village has a population of about 5000, which is steadily increasing, (the village is going through a development phase).
The main industries are fishing and tourism (and no heavy industry which means no pollution).
Yzerfontein falls in municpal ward 4 (click here to see a map of the ward's boundaries) of the Swartland Local Municipality in the Western Cape. The Swartland local municipality is governed by the Democratic Alliance, which won 58% of the vote with 10600 votes in the municipal elections on 1 March 2006 (an increase on the 2000 figure of 56%, 9800 votes).
