Both parents brood their hatchlings and feed them regurgitated food. For the first 15 days the hatchlings receive constant care. After 15 days the chicks have gained full control over their body temperature and no longer require the heat of their parents. However, the chicks are still at risk from predators; so the adults will continue to guard them until they are about 30 days old. Once the chicks are about 30 days old, both parents will feel free to go out to sea simulteously. Chicks that are left alone usually form creches (more to reduce the attacks on them from other adults than to avoid predation!).
